Reasons to Love Online Counseling
Whether you call it online counseling, virtual therapy, or telehealth, meeting with a therapist online can open up a world of possibilities. So often, I have clients that hesitate to set up a virtual appointment because they are used to traditional therapy. I actually used to prefer in-person myself as a provider. However, once I transitioned to meeting clients online, the benefits of tele-health quickly made it the preferred method.
Virtual therapy provides convience that just can’t be matched by in-person. Clients can join from anywhere, as long as they are in the same state their provider is licensed in. I’ve had clients join from cars, offices, or even their beds on hard days. It makes it easier to access self-care from anywhere.
Online counseling also provides greater flexibility with timing. Your lunch break can now be a lunch and talk. Especially for parents with busy schedules, you no longer have to take additional time out of your day to make the commute. I’ve had parents call while in the drop-off line, during their kid's soccer practice, or during naptime.
Telehealth offers complete confidentiality as in-person sessions. I use a HIPAA compliant platform, so your information is protected just as it would be in the office.
It also allows for a better therapist fit. Instead of seeing a general counselor who’s local to your area, you can see someone who is specialized to meet your needs. I have clients with ADHD from all over the state. Virtual has allowed me to connect with people who otherwise would not have access to my services.
Finally, virtual therapy provides more consistency. If you move, graduate college, or experience any large life transitions, you don’t need to find someone new. You can continue to see your provider.
Online therapy lets you see someone from any location, at any time.
